Abstract

During storm or tsunami events, sea waves apply stress responsible for disarticulation of the marine platform and transport of the related boulders sea- or land-wards. The analyses of coastal boulders exposed along the Punta del Cane coast (Syracuse, SE Sicily) suggest that most of them were mobilized by storm events. However we cannot exclude that some of the Punta del Cane boulders were mobilized by possible tsunami associated with seismic activity characterizing south-eastern Sicily.
