Abstract

The Italian Geological Society and the Italian Glaciological Committee are collaborating to the printing of a Regional Geological Guide entitled "Glaciological trails on the Italian mountains". The aim is to put in contact the Earth Sciences with a specialized public and also amateurs, naturalists and excursionists who are researching for information about geological and geomorphological features of Italian mountains. With an educational language and the scientific research materials the guide is presented as a useful tool, also from a didactic point of view, to visit the mountain environment discovering the geological features and the values of the glacial environment through which discover the importance of a territory that has to be managed in a careful and sustainable way. Most of all, the guide offers the possibility of a direct contact, not only for excursionists but also for students of different educational levels with one of the most evident effects of climate change, the glacier shrinkage.
